Taste Dysfunction in Long COVID-19 Patients: An Observational Study

Background: To assess the prevalence of gustatory (taste) dysfunction in Long COVID-19 patients, along with type and time taken for its resolution. Methods: This is a retrospective observational study based on patients presenting to specialist smell clinic being run as part long COVID an ENT department regional hospital UK. Out all these this clinic, ones taste problems or without were included analysed from electronic patient records. Their was described follow up period look at resolution symptoms Results: 70% had hypogeusia, 22% dysgeusia 8% ageusia. 52% showed partial dysfunction, 28 % complete 16% no improvement 29 months. Overall, lasted average 19.3 ± 7.51 Conclusions: From our study, we concluded there significant burden among addition despite slow recovery, many are expected recover months after initial infection. Nevertheless, adds distress they unable enjoy their food during which can have negative effects quality life patients.
